YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Nine students pursuing their studies at Youngstown State University have received Watson-Reese Scholarships for the 2025-2026 school year.
The scholarship program awarded $10,500 this year.
Each student was selected based on academic achievement, community service, financial need, extracurricular activities and their affiliation to Briarfield. Eligible recipients must be an employee of Briarfield or a direct lineal descendant of a Briarfield employee.
“All of our recipients show great potential in leading the next generation,” said Diane Reese, president of Briarfield. “We are so grateful to be able to support them and Youngstown State University.”
The scholarship recipients are:
The Watson-Reese Briarfield Scholarship, first awarded in the 2020-21 school year, was established by Ellen Tressel and Janet Stephens, along with Ed and Diane Reese. The late Frank and Norma Watson, parents of Ellen and Janet, were residents of Briarfield Manor in their later years. The program has awarded $52,250 in scholarships to 59 recipients.
