(L-r): Dr. Eurydice Bauer, Greater Columbia Community Relations Council Board Member; Sam Humphries, Dreher High graduate; and Mitchell M. Willoughby, Greater Columbia Community Relations Council Vice-Chairperson
Dreher High School Class of 2024 graduate Sam Humphries was named the recipient of the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council’s inaugural Mitchell M. Willoughby Community Scholarship. He was recognized during the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council’s 60th Anniversary Luncheon and Awards Presentation at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center June 20.
The $ 2,500 scholarship is awarded to a public high school student in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Kershaw, and Newberry counties who plans to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university within the United States. Scholarship applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate “outstanding citizenship, such as having been active in community service or social justice-related activities.”
Humphries will be attending the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in the fall, majoring in government on a prelaw track. He plans to attend law school after graduating from college.
“I feel great about receiving this scholarship and to be recognized. I see this scholarship as a way to focus on what I want to do in college and in life, and hopefully inspire me and others to focus on the community and improving it for the better,” said Humphries.
