ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Yard sales are a good way for vendors to rid their homes of unused items and for consumers to find those goods at just the right price.
The Zanesville Alpha Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is a fraternal organization of teachers that promote education here in Muskingum County. Club President Jere Kay Gardner talked about their annual yard sale and how its proceeds fund educational scholarships for students pursuing a career in teaching.
“This is a yearly garage sale that we have,” Gardner said. “Always the first weekend right after the Fourth of July. And we have people… people in our organization that save their things from their garage sales and when they’re cleaning out things. We have a lot of people in the community that know this is the time to bring your things in. We set up Wednesday and had everything set up and we’re still putting some things out. And we just have a… very good help from the community at bringing items in and buying also.”
The sale will continue 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the James D. Singer Activity Center located at 831 Matthews Street in Zanesville. In addition to the usual homewares, household goods and clothing, the indoor setting also offers comfortable air conditioning and convenient parking.
“We mainly ask for donations. We do have some suggested prices on some things but we’re just happy with whatever people are able to give,” Zanesville Alpha Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Vice President Barb Wolfe said.
The sale is a major fundraiser for the group who also partners with other area nonprofits to provide a better educational experience for the youth.
