This award was established to honour the memory of Dr. Jack Morgan, past Principal, Academic Dean, and Professor at King’s University College and renowned expert in the area of grief and bereavement. Dr. Morgan was an internationally recognized educator, lecturer and program organizer. During his time at King’s he organized the Annual Conference on Death, Dying and Bereavement that saw International experts from various fields come together at King’s each year. It was his work and efforts that led to the creation of the Certificate Program in Grief and Bereavement studies which started at King’s in 1994. Dr. Morgan was a dedicated teacher who encouraged students to reach their full potential through hard work, consistent curiosity, and perseverance. Established by former philosophy student and mentee Mr. Michael Lacy ’92 and Dr. Morgan’s children David and Brian Morgan, this award is granted to a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year full-time student who is registered in a program in the Department of Philosophy or Thanatology, and has achieved an average of at least 70% in the previous Fall/Winter term. King’s University College has committed to making post-secondary education more accessible for youth leaving care. Starting in the Fall/Winter 2021-2022 academic year up to 5 students will be awarded this bursary, which is meant to recognize the unique circumstances and needs of youth in extended care society who enroll in postsecondary studies at our institution. The bursary runs on a first come, first serve basis. The value of this bursary varies based on the students individuals financial situation, as determined by the review committee.

This award was established in 2013 by Silvercrest Foundation Limited in memory of its co-founder, Jenya Hayhoe ‘85. A loving heart and passionate volunteer, Jenya was dedicated to helping disadvantaged children and mothers in developing countries. Its purpose is to instill confidence of a bright future for indigenous youth, so that they may discover richness in their lives and contribute meaningfully to their community, in joy and in hope. Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope) was one of the last documents published at the Vatican Council II. The name of the document is taken from the first line which reads: “the joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ.” This award is granted annually to a First Nations, Inuit or Métis student entering full-time or part-time study at King’s University College in the next academic year.

To be eligible to receive this scholarship, a student must register as a full-time student at King’s, have an average of 80% and be a Western Varsity athlete. A total of six scholarships (three for female athletes and three for male athletes) with a value of $3000.00 will be granted each year. The scholarship is renewable if the student is registered full-time at King’s, retains a minimum average of 75% and remains active in a Western Varsity athletic program. This scholarship may be held with a King’s Entrance or Continuing Scholarship to a maximum amount of $5000.00. According to OUA regulations, the maximum that an eligible student-athlete can receive in Athletic Financial Awards/scholarships is $4,500.00 annually. The amount offered may be less, but it cannot exceed $4,500.00. New recipients and renewal of the scholarship are determined in October each year.

As part of the London Multiculturalism Community Association Scholarship Program, the King’s Entrance Scholarship for Students New to Canada is granted to 1st-year King’s students who are graduates of London high schools and who have immigrated to Canada in the past three years. Applicants must have a minimum of 80% as well as having participated in extracurricular or volunteer activities as indicated by reference or statement letter. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need. The recipients may hold this award concurrently with a King’s University College Entrance Scholarship. Terms of the Entrance Scholarship apply.

All students who achieve a final high school mark of 85% or greater in both Calculus (MCB4U) or Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) AND Geometry and Discrete Math (MGA4U) or Advanced Functions (MHF4U) will be offered a scholarship of $500.00. This scholarship will be granted in addition to any other scholarships offered by King’s. All scholarship recipients must: satisfy the published admission criteria and remain registered in four courses and  must include a full course equivalent in first year mathematics (including mathematics, calculus, linear algebra and/or statistics) at King’s. These eligibility requirements will be confirmed by early November at which time the scholarship will be credited to the student. Undergraduate students who may be experiencing financial difficulties but who do not qualify for other King’s bursaries are encouraged to apply for this bursary.  This bursary is also available to students that may find themselves in a financial emergency such as unexpected medical expenses not covered by normal provincial or federal funding.  Each application is reviewed in detail and decisions are made on a student by student basis regarding the level of funding necessary. Bursaries are intended to supplement other sources of funding such as OSAP, the student’s own resources, and/or those of the parents/spouse. Please note: Applications may take 4-6 weeks after submission to be reviewed and outcomes determined. Applications submitted between August 1 and November 30th are reviewed after November 30th. The value of this bursary varies based on the individuals financial situation, as determined by the review committee.

This bursary is available to senior citizens (if you are 60 years of age or older) registered at King’s University College at the undergraduate level who require financial assistance to continue post-secondary studies. The value of the bursary shall cover the cost of up to three full courses (excluding online courses) at King’s for the September – August study period. The bursary will not cover additional expenses such as books. Admissions to limited enrolment courses and programs is competitive. No assurance can be given to students that they will be granted a place in such courses or programs. Only students registered at King’s University College are eligible for the bursary. Applicants are responsible for submitting their bursary applications prior to the tuition fee deadline. The bursary will not cover fees incurred from late or deferred payments. A reduction in course load will correspondingly reduce the value of the bursary; if adding or dropping courses during the academic year, please notify our office by email or in writing. This award was established to honour the memory of King’s graduate Reid Marchand, who passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2017. Established by Dr. J. Michalski to support the achievement of a current student-athlete entering his/her 2nd or 3rd year, completing either a Major or Honours Specialization as a full-time student at King’s University College. The qualifying student will have achieved a minimum cumulative average of 70% in the previous fall/winter terms (minimum of 4.0 courses or the equivalent) and must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a student athlete competing in a U Sports (national competition), based on the recommendation of his/her coach in terms of the student’s contribution to the team.

This award was established to honour the memory of King’s student Emil Pietruszewski, who tragically passed away as a result of a multi-vehicle collision in 2019. Emil was in his fourth year of an honours specialization in Criminology and major in Psychology at King’s University College. He was a caring, compassionate, and dedicated student who planned to pursue a career in Forensic Psychology.

Established by her family in loving memory of Heather MacLean Meek, a King’s BSW graduate and a social worker who practiced in the London community. The award is given annually to MSW student entering the final year of the two-year MSW program who has maintained a minimum overall academic average of 75% in MSW courses and demonstrates a strong potential for leadership in the social work profession. In the case that the two-year MSW program is not available, students enrolled in the one-year MSW course will be considered. Students will be nominated by a faculty members from the School of Social Work. A student may solicit the support of a faculty member from the School of Social Work regarding a nomination. The Selection Committee will be composed of one School of Social Work representative, one community representative, and the School’s Graduate Program.

Students must be registered in an honours program that includes in order of the following priority, one of the following: an Honours Specialization in Economics, Major in Economics, Major in Finance, and Honours Specialization in Management and Organizational Studies, or a Major in Management and Organizational Studies. Students must have attained an average of at least 75% in their previous full-time year of study,. The successful recipients may hold this award with other student awards.
