LEWISBURG — Lewisburg Area senior and high school Student Council President Erin DeSantis is in the running for a $20,000 scholarship from Coca-Cola.
DeSantis, 18, who is also doing a full-time dual enrollment at Bloomsburg University this year, submitted her semi-finalist application to be reviewed by the Program Reading Committee. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school.
“I’m excited,” DeSantis said. “Being a part of the 1.27 percent of applicants selected for the semifinalist round is an incredible honor. And, as of this morning (Monday), my semifinalist application has been submitted.”
The program recognizes students for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. In total, 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive the $20,000 scholarship.
These 1,336 students were among the 1.27 percent selected from more than 105,000 applicants from across the country to continue through our selection process based on their academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and community activities.
“I first heard about it from friends in the scholar classes of 2022 and 2024,” DeSantis said. “The initial application is open to all U.S. high school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 (or higher).”
After the semifinalist review, 250 students will advance as regional finalists, with 150 becoming Coca-Cola Scholars and receiving a $20,000 college scholarship. The final stage of the 2025 scholars selection process is attending Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend in Atlanta in April. All expenses for the scholars are covered by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
“This scholarship is unique in that recipients have between four to 10 years to use their full award and may opt to defer all or part of the award within that 10-year timeframe,” DeSantis said. “In addition to using funds for tuition at an accredited college or university, scholars may also use their funds for other educational expenses as specified by the foundation, such as on-campus housing, for a computer, or textbooks.”
DeSantis serves as the chair of the High School Democrats of Pennsylvania, student council president, a member of the Lewisburg varsity bowling team, program lead for Teach Against Trafficking, and she is an Eagle Scout and Treasurer of Woapeu Sisilija Lodge Order of the Arrow. She plans to study political science and marketing in college and pursue a career in political campaign management.
During a public meeting on Oct. 24, Lewisburg Area Superintendent Cathy Moser praised DeSantis for her achievements.
“Coming through the rest of the criteria, academic excellence, leadership, service demonstrated in school and community, we wish you so well and hold great hope that in the end, you’re one of those 150 seniors earning $20,000 scholarships,” DeSantis said.
