A number of Garvin County students were among the Mid-America Technology Center nursing students awarded an Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship.
Scholarships were awarded to eight Practical Nursing students: Skyla Delahoussaye from Purcell, Samantha Johnson from Noble, Madison Lacy from Purcell, Heather McGough from Wynnewood, Danelle Moistner from Davis, Carly Neely from Lindsay, Shaylah Nirk from Noble, and Alisha Williams from Lindsay.
These students exemplify the dedication and scholastic achievement that the scholarship seeks to honor, each committed to advancing their education and careers through the CareerTech system,” MATC officials said.
The Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship is awarded to adult students in Oklahoma who show exceptional commitment and achievement in their studies at an Oklahoma Technology Center.
Named in honor of Otha H. Grimes, a distinguished leader in agriculture, oil, gas, and civic engagement, the scholarship reflects his dedication to supporting students in their educational journeys.
The Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation oversees this scholarship, offering financial support twice annually to eligible students. To qualify, students must be adult Oklahoma residents enrolled in programs at an Oklahoma Tech center. The scholarship is designed to help students manage educational expenses, providing them with funds to pay for various school costs and offsetting financial barriers that could hinder their educational progress.
Otha H. Grimes, who owned Ogeechee Farms in Fairland, Oklahoma, was widely recognized for his contributions to agriculture, particularly in performance testing for beef cattle management.
Beyond agriculture, Grimes was committed to uplifting educational institutions across Oklahoma. As a longtime member of the Oklahoma Foundation for Career and Technology Education’s Board of Directors, he helped steer resources toward educational programs that serve adults seeking to enhance their careers and skills.
Grimes’ dedication to education was formally recognized in 1990 when he was inducted into the CareerTech Hall of Fame, solidifying his place in Oklahoma’s history as a champion of career and technology education.
His legacy lives on through the Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship, which continues to open doors for students across Oklahoma, fostering a generation of skilled professionals poised to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
