Two Sturgeon Bay students were awarded scholarships from the Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit that supports Coast Guard members and their families.
One recipient was Alexis Hemminger, child of Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer 4 Thomas Hemminger, who attends the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The other scholarship winner was Brealyn Spritka, child of Coast Guard veteran Wayne Spritka. Brealyn Spritka was awarded a Coast Guard Foundation Navy Federal Credit Union Scholarship and attends the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Coast Guard Foundation scholarships are awarded to the children of enlisted men and women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Coast Guard. The foundation has awarded 207 new scholarships in 2024, totaling $750,000 in support for the 2024-2025 academic year.
