In a heartfelt tribute to a mentor who profoundly shaped his life, Columbus alumnus Carlos Rodriguez, Class of 1982, has made a significant contribution to endow a scholarship in honor of Brother Edmund Sheehan. This scholarship will support future students for generations, covering tuition and enriching experiences, including class trips, junior ring, Grad Bash, and prom. Through this scholarship, Carlos commemorates the impact of Brother Edmund, whose leadership laid the foundation for the enduring bond known as “The Brotherhood.”
Brother Edmund Sheehan has dedicated 45 years of his life to serving and shaping young men at Christopher Columbus High School and served as principal when Carlos attended as a student. Carlos recalls Brother Edmund’s influence with deep admiration: “Brother Edmund was the kind of leader who quietly yet powerfully instilled values of faith, community, integrity, brotherhood, and resilience. He helped us understand that we weren’t just students—we were family. His guidance set the foundation for the Brotherhood we  cherish today.”
Carlos’s journey with Columbus is marked by an act of generosity that left a lasting impression on him. During his time at Columbus, after the death of his father, Carlos was raised by his mother who worked hard to cover the cost of his tuition. When an anonymous alumnus gifted him his senior class ring, Carlos made a promise: he would one day pay it forward. “Receiving that ring was a moment I’ll never forget. It reminded me of the strength of our Columbus Brotherhood and inspired me to make that same impact on another student someday. Today, with this endowed scholarship, I’m honored to fulfill that promise.”
Carlos went on to graduate from Harvard College and Harvard Business School and led a successful career with the Fortune 500 payroll and human capital management company, ADP, where he served for 11 years as CEO.
Columbus President Thomas Kruczek praised Carlos and the broader Columbus community for their continued dedication to the school and its mission: “Our alumni are remarkable in their commitment to building the next generation of Columbus men. Carlos’s gift, along with others who have endowed scholarships, creates a lasting impact that extends well beyond today. These funds position us for a future where even more young men can experience the life-changing gift of a Marist education.”
Endowed scholarships like Carlos’s provide invaluable support, helping ensure that Columbus continues to be accessible for deserving students while honoring the legacy of those who dedicated their lives to the school’s mission, making Jesus Christ known and loved by all. Carlos Rodriguez’s contribution is a testament to the enduring power of Brother Edmund Sheehan’s influence and the legacy of kindness that has united generations of Columbus men.
