MSU Foundation Annual Scholarship is now open for students to apply.
Missouri State students can apply for the MSU Foundation Scholarship from Nov. 1 through March 1. The MSU Foundation Scholarship has over 1,000 different donor-funded scholarships available. To be considered for need-based scholarships, students should submit a FAFSA by Feb. 1.
Students can apply by logging in to their My Missouri State portal, finding the Financial Aid & Scholarship card, and selecting the MSU Foundation Scholarship link.
The Foundation Scholarship is open to all Missouri State students, including at the undergraduate level, graduate school level and even for high school seniors. It is also open to out-of-state students as well as international students.
“I encourage all students to submit the MSU Foundation Annual Scholarship Application each year,” said Kelsey Menefee, director of university advancement relations. “Even if a student applied last year and did not receive a scholarship, they should try applying again. Some scholarships consider a student’s grade level, their major or their organizational involvement. Because these factors change, a student’s eligibility will change year to year.”
Even with a plethora of scholarship opportunities, MSU students can submit just one application and automatically be put in all scholarship candidate pools that they are eligible for. The application has many yes/no and multiple-choice questions as well as some essay and letter of recommendation prompts.
“The application will look different to different students based on their previous answers,” said Menefee. “Time spent on the application will vary per student. For example, students who are undeclared will not be presented with the sections (of the application) only required of students from the College of Education, the College of Business, etc.”
“Time spent on the application is well worth it,” said Menefee.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, the Foundation Scholarship awarded over $4 million — with a third of applicants receiving scholarships with an average amount of $1,700.
Students who apply may be offered more than one scholarship. These scholarships can be stacked. Foundation scholarships, like other financial aid, are applied to the recipient’s student account to cover tuition, fees, books, etc. If the recipient’s account has already been paid in full, the amount will be refunded to them.
Students who are selected to receive a Foundation scholarship will be notified through their MSU email beginning in March through June 1.
Scholarship selections are made through various committees made up of university faculty and staff. Many committees are through academic departments or colleges, however scholarships not related to a student’s major are selected by non-departmental committees.
“I highly recommend that all applicants work on and submit a personal statement. This essay is required for some scholarships, but it is also a way for applicants to introduce themselves to committees and can be used by committees to help select a recipient amongst a pool of otherwise equally qualified candidates,” said Menefee.
Scholarships are funded by private donors. These scholarship donors can be individuals alumni or other friends of the university or organizations that wish to support students at Missouri State.
