LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – An Oak Grove Middle School teacher is preparing to renew her national board certification without it coming out of her pocket.
Sixth grade Language Arts teacher Laura Beth McCarty said originally shed received National Board Certification 10 years ago.
Now, she is one of 10 teachers in Mississippi who was awarded a scholarship from the Mississippi Professional Educators organization to cover the costs of renewal.
“We have to be very reflective during the national board process,” McCarty said. “We have to know our content area and be aware of what parts of our teaching are working and which parts are not and always to be mindful of the group of students that we have at that time.
“So, it has helped me really to look into myself and into my actions as a teacher and to change what I need to to become better and to help grow those students.”
McCarty said she also expects to receive her doctorate in Education next month.
