In a poignant interview with Joe Pags, former MLB star and World Series Champion Steve Sax revealed the tragic loss of his son, Captain John J. Sax, USMC, in a training accident on June 8, 2022, in the Southern California desert. To honor his son’s passion for flying, Sax and his family established the Captain John J. Sax Family Foundation.
The foundation aims to provide scholarships and grants to aspiring aviators, ensuring that John’s legacy lives on through the dreams of others. In a unique fundraising effort, Sax collaborated with artist Opie Otterstad to create a limited-edition digital asset from an original painting titled "Babe and The Kids."
The non-fungible token (NFT), available at www.babeandthekids.com, serves as both a tribute to John’s memory and a means to support the foundation’s mission. Sax hopes that the NFT will not only raise funds but also inspire and empower future generations of aviators to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
Through this initiative, Sax channels his grief into a positive force for change, ensuring that John’s passion for flying continues to uplift and inspire others for years to come.
