The foundation dedicated to honoring Jaime Guttenberg’s legacy through educational support has officially announced the opening of applications for its 2024 scholarship program.
Fred and Jennifer Guttenberg created Orange Ribbons for Jaime, a 501(c)(3) organization after their daughter tragically died in the Parkland school shooting. Since then, they have been committed to supporting causes that were important to Jaime and addressing issues related to the circumstances of her untimely death.
The scholarship program is divided into three main categories, each designed to cater to the unique aspirations and needs of students with different career paths and backgrounds.
The Jaime Guttenberg Helping Hands Scholarship
This scholarship targets students pursuing careers in sectors dedicated to helping others, such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Psychology, or Special Education.
Eligibility for this scholarship requires a commitment to community service, with applicants needing to have completed a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer work during their high school years. Additionally, a minimum weighted GPA of 3.5 is required, alongside the submission of transcripts, documentation of community service, and an essay detailing the applicant’s career ambitions and motivations.
The Jaime Guttenberg Dance Scholarship
The scholarship supports students with a passion for dance, encouraging those applying to traditional four-year universities or specialized performing arts programs.
Applicants must have participated in dance classes for at least three years during high school and share the same community service commitments and academic standards as the Helping Hands Scholarship. Candidates are required to express, through an essay, their dedication to dance and the impact it has had on their lives.
The Jaime Guttenberg All Abilities Scholarship
The one is tailored for students diagnosed with special needs or disabilities, including but not limited to Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or Limb Deficiency. This inclusive category embraces applicants pursuing further education post-high school in diverse settings such as universities, colleges, technical schools, and vocational training programs.
Required documentation includes transcripts and a medical diagnosis, with an emphasis on the applicant’s future aspirations.
Applications for all scholarships close on Monday, April 15, 2024. Prospective applicants must have a Google account or create one to apply, ensuring they can be contacted for follow-ups, updates, and correspondence throughout the selection process. Apply here.
