MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A Kansas State University veterinary student is receiving diversity leadership scholarship.
According to K-State, a third-year Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine student is the recipient of a national scholarship from Merck Animal Health.
K-State officials indicated Astrid Carcamo-Tzic, of Olathe, is one of 21 students nationwide who has been awarded a Merck Animal Health Diversity Leadership Scholarship. Sponsored by Merck Animal Health, the scholarships support efforts by the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges, or AAVMC, to recognize student recipients as a champion of diversity, equity and inclusion in veterinary medicine.
“I am incredibly grateful to be the recipient of the Merck Animal Health Diversity Leadership Scholarship,” Carcamo-Tzic said. “It is an honor to represent Kansas State University, but also to be a part of a community that values equity and inclusion. As future leaders in veterinary medicine, our commitment to diversity is critical for the expansion and strengthening of the human-animal bond.”
K-State officials said the Merck Animal Health Diversity Leadership Scholarship recognizes second- and third-year students in good academic and professional standing at an AAVMC member institution. These 21 awardees have contributed to enhancing diversity and inclusion through course projects, co-curricular activities, outreach, domestic and community engagement, research, and/or developed an early reputation for influencing others to be inclusive. Each recipient will be awarded a one-time scholarship payment in the amount of $8,000.
“We are thrilled to support the next generation of veterinary medical professionals through our valued partnership with Merck Animal Health,” said AAVMC CEO Andrew T. Maccabe. “These students exemplify AAVMC’s core values of diversity, inclusion and excellence.”
K-State officials noted more information about AAVMC’s scholarship and grant programs, including eligibility requirements and deadlines, is available HERE.
