One of the highlights at the Trenton Softball Hall of Fame’s annual banquet is the awarding of over $20,000 in scholarships to six senior high school athletes.
The baseball players who will receive scholarships at this year’s banquet on April 28 at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course are Lawrence High’s Kellen Moore and Notre Dame’s Justin Prekop.
The Lawrence baseball team has enjoyed a lot of success of late and Moore has been right in the middle of it. Moore has been the Cards’ ace on the mound and serves as the designated hitter or first baseman on days he doesn’t pitch.
He is the senior captain this year and was named the Colonial Valley Conference’s Pitcher of the Year in 2023.
He also has enjoyed a lot of success as a pitcher with the Diamond Jacks travel baseball team in tournaments around the country where he made six all-tourney teams. He was recognized as a region pre-season All-American by the Perfect Game scouting service.
Moore also was the captain of the Lawrence basketball team this season. He was a four-year member of the varsity in basketball and baseball.
In addition, he is an outstanding student with a GPA of 4.51 and has taken six advanced courses. He is a member of the National Honors Society.
Moore has committed to play baseball at Lafayette College where he intends to pursue a degree in economics. He has also participated in activities outside of school such as the Special Olympics.
Prekop is a three-year member of the Notre Dame baseball team that has also been very successful.
He was named the Mercer County American Legion Rookie of the Year in his freshman year in 2021 and was a pitcher on the Mercer County Carpenter Cup team last summer. He made the All-Colonial Valley Conference second team as a utility player last year.
Also active in extra-curricular activities, Prekop is a member of Joey’s Little Angels and Catholic Athletes for Christ. He has exceled in the classroom and has been a member of the National Honors Society since his freshman year.
Prekop is headed to Stockton University where he will be part of the business school and major in accounting.
The scholarship winners who play softball are Rylee Michalak of Notre Dame as well as Robbinsville’s Sorella Gallucci, Katie Ziliani and Haley Krebs. The Men’s Player inductees are Doug LeJambre, Willie Allen and Mark Olszak. The Player/Manager is Joe Marseglia and Tim Dolan was the player selected by the Veterans Committee. Richardson Realty is the inductee in the Sponsorship Division. Women’s player inductees areWanda Caines and Connie Huston.
