MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –
The annual Reconciliation Week Celebration continued Wednesday with the annual luncheon that honors Reverend Charlie J. Miller.
Several awards were given at Wednesday’s luncheon, including two scholarship awards, several Reconciler Awards, and a charity donation presentation. The winners for the Charlie J. Miller Memorial Scholarship were Amaya Nicholson and Ethan Wright.
Fannie Johnson with L.O.V.E’S Kitchen won a Reconciler Award for her work within the community and MCM Meridian won the charitable donation for their Juneteenth event they hosted.
“I think it says to this community that we did have this event,’ said Senator Rod Hickman, MS District 32. “It shows that while we still remember and there’s losses going on, that we are a community of resilience. We are continuing to grow and learn. We’re still not in 2003 but ever since then we’ve both been remembering, learning and reconciling.”
Thursday’s Reconciliation event is Mental Health Awareness Day, where employers are encouraged to offer employees a treat to boost their mental health, or participate in the “Mind Your Steps” Mental Health Walk.
