The Brian VanHorn Memorial Scholarship Fund has announced its 2025 winners, awarding $4,000 each to two exceptional local students: Jarielys Nunez and MacKenzie Rhodes. Both recipients are planning to attend Bloomsburg University this fall, a fitting tribute as Brian VanHorn himself was accepted to Bloomsburg back in 1989.
Jarielys Nunez, a recent graduate of Marian Catholic High School, will major in business management. Nunez is a talented musician, playing the xylophone and bells, and she’s excited to join the university’s marching band. In her free time, she also enjoys playing the guitar. Her experience working at Cracker Barrel has helped her develop strong communication and teamwork skills. Looking to the future, Nunez has a meaningful dream: to start a business that supports individuals with disabilities, especially those with autism.
MacKenzie Rhodes, a graduate of Weatherly High School, is the second recipient of this year’s scholarship and will also be continuing her education at Bloomsburg University.
The Brian VanHorn Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of the beloved Weatherly native. The fund supports students who embody his spirit of dedication and community involvement, helping them pursue their academic goals.
