Canara Bank celebrated the 79th Independence Day by distributing scholarships to meritorious girl students belonging to SC and ST communities at its circle office here on August 15.
Social Welfare Department Deputy Director B.S. Hemalatha distributed scholarships to students chosen from the region in the presence of the bank circle office general manager Manjunath B. Singai.
Mr. Singai said the bank has been providing scholarships to meritorious girl students of the communities under ‘Dr. Ambedkar Vidya Jyothi Scheme’ as a CSR initiative.
Across the country, the bank has paid scholarships amounting to ₹18 crore to over 45,000 girl students spanning more than 7,600 schools, he said. This year, the bank facilitated scholarship distribution across 26 circle offices, 177 regional offices, and over 7,660 branches throughout India. The initiative aims to empower the nation’s young minds and provide scholarships to meritorious SC/ST girl students from underprivileged backgrounds to help them pursue academic excellence.
Apart from the scholarship scheme, the bank also facilitated village adoption initiative, construction of toilets and sanitation facilities for girl students in rural schools under its CSR Program, he added.
