CHEYENNE, Wyo. — On Friday, Cheyenne-based artists and educators collectively handed out thousands of dollars in scholarship cash to several young artists who produced distinguished work. More than 10 individual prizes were given to students overall.
More than 1,000 art pieces have sat on display in Storey Gymnasium over the past week for the LCSD1 Capital City Art Show. Educators held a ceremony Friday evening with students, proud parents and local business owners congratulating artists who won ribbons.
The goal of the Capital City Art Show is to “appreciate and celebrate our kids,” Nicole Cameron, an art teacher at East High School, told Cap City News. Cameron is one of the many art teachers across the district who works to coordinate the event each year.
Students submitted work from the following art mediums:
- Pottery
- Digital media
- Mixed media
- Photography
- Culinary
- Sculpture
- Ceramics
- Painting
- Drawing
Best in Show awards were given to two pieces. One was a two-dimensional medium, and the other was three-dimensional. The students who received these awards each received a $325 scholarship from custom clothing store Drippin Paisley.
