
BLUEFIELD, W.Va . (WVVA) -A new scholarship to honor the life and legacy of Christopher Todd Richardson was announced at the fourth annual BSU Mining Engineering Technology Fundraising dinner at Club on the Green in Bluefield tonight.
Richardson was a respected mining professional From Richlands, Va. The scholarship will support students seeking degrees in mining engineering technology.
“Tonight’s announcement ensures that Todd Richardson’s legacy will continue to inspire and support future generations of Bluefield State students,” said Dr. Darrin Martin, President of Bluefield State University. “This scholarship reflects both his passion for mining and his commitment to helping others succeed.”
“This scholarship means the world to our family,” said Brian Richardson, Todd’s brother. “Todd believed in hard work, fairness, and giving people the chance to reach their potential. Knowing that students at Bluefield State will be able to pursue their dreams in mining with help from a scholarship in his name is the best way we could ever honor his life.”
Representatives from the Richardson family and leaders from all across the mining industry attended the fourth annual fundraising event, which supports the return and growth of Bluefield State’s Mining Engineering Technology Program.
The program has historic roots in the region and is of vital importance to the future of the mining industry.
BSU partners with Pocahontas Royalties to raise funds to continue supporting the program, which provides vital engineering professionals to the mining industry.
During the dinner Martin announced that the University is currently working on a online Mining Engineering Technology Program to educate more people from around the world.
The event also served as a kickoff to this year’s Bluefield Coal & Mining Show, which starts Wednesday morning at the Brushfork Armory featuring about 100 exhibitors from around the country and overseas.
