The Douglas High School Block D club is raising the Tiger spirit during the annual scholarship dinner Oct. 5 at Carson Valley Inn’s TJ Corral with more community engagement.
Block D President Haley Koontz said the club plans to have community members and athletes sit together.
“We want to boost community involvement and make it more interactive,” said Koontz. “The goal is to create meaningful connections and enhance the overall experience.”
The scholarship dinner is a key fundraising event, put on by Block D, designed to support sports programs, scholarships, and projects around the school for the athletic program.
The event will include various activities including a cornhole tournament, raffles, and a silent auction.
All proceeds from the dinner fund the Block D Memorial Scholarship, the Senior Athlete of the Year Scholarship, and DHS Athletics.
As a service club, Block D hosts many events throughout the school year that helps benefit inside and outside the Douglas High School community.
One of their biggest events of the year, is the Turkey drive which supports those in need during the holidays and reading programs at the elementary schools.
Koontz, who has been a Block D member for three years, said her experience has opened her eyes to the opportunity to give back to a supportive community.
“It has really opened my eyes to how great our community is,” she said. “We are grateful to have people who support us financially and in general, but on the other end we need to be able to help and support those who need us, just as much as we need others.”
The scholarship dinner tickets are available at the Tiger Cage. Call Rennie (Anne) Evans at 775-782-5136, ext. 1714 for more information or ask a Block D student.
