Yukon’s Alanna Bradley, El Reno’s Brionna Spann honored
Alanna Bradley of Yukon and Brionna Spann of El Reno are the winners of 2025 Canadian County Democrats’ Robert “Bob” Burton Scholarships valued at $500 each.
Bradley completed a Master of Arts in professional writing at the University of Oklahoma in May 2025 and has been active in the Canadian County Democrats for many years.
Spann earned a 4.0 grade point average at Redlands Community College and is pursuing a sports media communications degree.
The Canadian County Democrats have awarded scholarships for 18 years in honor of Bob Burton, the deceased county vice chair who encouraged young Democrats to become active in the party.
Scholarship committee members are Shirley Burton, Bob Burton’s widow and Canadian County secretary; Mark Hammons, former Oklahoma representative, Oklahoma Democratic Party chair, Canadian County vice chair and Democrat of the Year; Bradley; and Laurie Hammons, Canadian County Democrat of the Year.
Bradley’s father Joe Bradley and Burton were brothers in the Oklahoma City Western Electric chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
“I identify as a Democrat because I believe in the core values of diversity, progress, equity, equality and education,” Bradley wrote in her scholarship application. “These principles are essential to creating a more inclusive and forward-thinking society – one where every individual has a fair chance to thrive, no matter their background or circumstance.”
“Historically, the (Democratic) party has evolved significantly, adapting to change and needs of the American people,” Spann wrote. “… as a young adult, it is important that our voices are heard. To progress as a country and community we need to be involved with politics and know that our votes matter and can make a change at all levels of the government.”
The Canadian County Democrats meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month (except December) at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S Ranchwood.
