Thousands of people made their way to the annual Harvest Festival in Durham for a day for eating, games, cars and most importantly fundraising.
DURHAM, Calif. – Thousands gathered at the annual Harvest Festival in Durham for a day filled with food, games and cars, all while supporting a good cause. The Durham Rotary Club hosted the event, which aimed to raise funds for local youth programs and scholarships.
“We send four Durham high school students to leadership and entrepreneurial camps every summer and we usually give out anywhere from 20 to 25 thousand dollars in scholarships to Durham seniors every year and it’s all funded by this event,” said Tom Knowles, president of the Durham Rotary Club.
The Rotary Club had a goal of raising $50,000 through the festival. The funds were collected from various activities, including a car show, a pancake breakfast, a tri-tip dinner and sales from vendors. Kreg Brawley, a vendor at the festival, shared how the event is beneficial for his business.
“Every time someone new sees your stuff you know they come back and every event we do, at least 50 percent of our sales are repeat business so every time someone new sees it and likes it, then they come back so it just makes everything grow all the time,” said Brawley.
The car show was a highlight of the festival, drawing in crowds to Durham Community Park.
Attendees admired a diverse range of vehicles, from classic cars to sports cars. Ron Thomas, who traveled from Oroville to showcase his truck, was one of the proud participants.
“It’s a 48′ Chevy pickup, it’s got a 360 Chevy, with a 700 hundred dollar automatic overdrive air conditioning power windows, power steering brakes and all the goodies that the new ones have that way you can travel to more shows,” said Thomas.
The Harvest Festival in Durham not only brought the community together but also supported local youth through its fundraising efforts.
