Essex County College (ECC) is hosting its 25th annual Golf Scholarship Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 16 at Maplewood Country Club in New Jersey. The longstanding tradition brings together alumni, staff, community partners, and business leaders in support of student success through scholarship at ECC.
“For 25 years, this tournament has been a testament to the power of community,” said Dr. Augustine A. Boakye, president of Essex County College. “The generosity of our alumni, partners, and friends ensures that ECC students can pursue their education and realize their full potential.”
Registration for the outing is currently underway. The golf classic is a four-person team play event, with a shotgun start that allows all teams to begin play at the same time, making it easy and enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels. However, single golfers are welcome to play.
For ECC Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Keith Kirkland, who leads the organization of the tournament, the event is about much more than the dollars raised.
“This event isn’t just about raising funds—it’s about what those funds make possible,” said Dr. Kirkland. “Scholarships from the tournament open doors for students who might not otherwise have the chance to complete their education, and that’s what makes this tradition so powerful.”
Over the past 25 years, the tournament has raised more than $100,000, providing funds for presidential scholarships awarded annually. That success reflects the strong commitment of ECC’s community partners, alumni, and friends who make these scholarships possible.
“By coming together, alumni, businesses, and friends of the College help create new opportunities for students to pursue higher education – while having fun,” said Dr. Leigh Bello-Bryan, associate dean of student affairs and co-organizer of the Scholarship Golf Tournament.
Along with tournament play, guests can enjoy raffles, contests, brunch, cocktails, dinner, and a reception.
