EducationQuest has announced that 24 Nebraskans have been awarded a total of $138,000 in Reaching Your Potential Scholarship funds. The program, which began in 2000, provides renewable scholarships to low-income Nebraska students who face obstacles to college. Recipients attending a two-year college receive $3,000 annually, while those attending a four-year college receive $6,300 annually.
Vice President of Grants and Scholarships Eric Drumheller expressed admiration for the scholarship recipients, stating, "We are humbled by the challenges our Reaching Your Potential Scholars face. The stories of these incredible students are simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring. We are excited to welcome them into the program and work with them as they earn their college degree."
Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $7.4 million in scholarships to 622 Nebraskans, with 81% of recipients either currently enrolled in college or having graduated.
Among this year's recipients, Paw Ka Pru Htoo from Omaha was named the Tammi J. Preston Scholar, an honor given to the top-qualifying recipient in each scholarship cycle. Htoo will attend Nebraska Methodist College.
The scholarship recipients come from various towns across Nebraska and plan to attend a range of colleges, including Chadron State College, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Creighton University, among others. One recipient chose to remain anonymous.
