HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2024. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Will Regan is the fourteenth scholarship winner from the Class of 2024. He is a student at Deer Park High School – South Campus, which is part of the Deer Park Independent School District.
Academics are a strong focus for Regan, who is ranked sixth out of 967 students in his senior class. He has competed at the state level in Academic Decathlon and on his school’s UIL Academic Team. Regan is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa and Mu Alpha Theta.
Regan is a multi-sport athlete who excels in track. He has also played football and basketball. In his spare time, Regan has volunteered as a tutor and he founded a wilderness survival club.
For Regan, setting his sights on a career where he can leverage the legal system to help foster children is deeply personal. In his nomination essay, Regan said, “I know what it is like to be born a ward of the state…as a former foster child, I understand that many individuals who enter this broken system are similarly hindered and faced with seemingly impossible obstacles from the mere moment they are born.” Regan told KPRC 2′s Justina Latimer that he ended up in “a very blessed position,” giving a nod to his mother, and that he wants to give back to help other children in the foster care system.
Regan plans to attend Trinity University on a Pre-Law track. He then hopes to continue his education at The University of Texas.
