On Saturday, the annual 5721 fitness throwdown event was held in remembrance of fallen SDPD Officer Jonathan De Guzman.
The event hosted by NXPT Fitness along with the Filipino-American Law Enforcement Officers Association (FALEO) also held competitive fitness challenges and hosted vendors to raise money for scholarships in honor of De Guzman.

All funds raised will be going towards scholarships in honor of DeGuzman for “high achieving” first year college students of underrepresented backgrounds, according to event organizers.
“Last year we raised right around $3,000, which is a great amount, but we are hoping to double it this year, and we are on track. The actual competition itself hit that number then we’ve been fundraising with the spectators to do raffle prizes, give away swag from our vendors and we are hoping we can at least double it this year,” said Owner, of NXPT Fitness Dan Hark said.
De Guzman was killed in a 2016 shooting that also critically injured his fellow Officer Wade Irwin.
People that attended the event thanked all first responders.
“Everybody with a badge, everybody that wakes up every day and goes out and serves our community that we are there for you and we see your sacrifice and appreciate everything that you do,” Hark said.
