KINGSTON, N.Y. — Two Kingston High School students and one New Paltz High School student have been awarded Amazon Future Engineer Scholarships, Amazon announced Monday.
The students selected were Kingston High School valedictorian Peter Dong and salutatorian Jerry Chen, and New Paltz High’s Andrii Zorin, Amazon announced. The students are among 51 high school seniors across New York state and 400 nationwide from underserved communities who will receive the scholarship, the tech giant said.
The company said the award includes an up to $40,000 scholarship to study computer science, engineering or a related field at the college or university of their choosing, along with a paid internship at Amazon after their freshman year of college.
Amazon said the students were selected for the program based on a number of criteria, including their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals and financial need.
