CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Students in middle and high school at Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and the University of Virginia were recognized at the 3rd Annual Doctor Donald Wallace Jones Scholarship Brunch.
The brunch honored students in M.O.C.H.A., W.O.C.H.A, and P.O.C.H.A. which stands for men/women/people of color, honor, and ambition.
This was an initiative started in 2012 by Kevin McDonald.
“Coming here to see it in four middle schools and four high schools and a community cohort in West Haven, and now at the undergraduate level at the University of Virginia. It feels like a dream realized. I’m incredibly grateful every day,” Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Partnership at UVA, Kevin McDonald said.
Some students also walked away from the brunch with a scholarship.
