Jack Nelson and Ashtyn Wiersma have each been awarded a 2024 Dodge County Master Gardener Association $1,000 Scholarship, according to an April 27 press release.
Nelson, a senior at Lomira High School, will attend Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton in the Greenhouse Operations program with plans to transfer to University of Wisconsin-River Falls leading to a degree in landscaping. While in high school, Nelson was a 4-year FFA member and an officer of the Outdoor Club. He also participated in football and golf. He has been employed by Natural Resources Innovations as a landscaping technician restoring and creating landscaping projects.
Wiersma, a senior at Randolph High School, plans to attend UW-Platteville majoring in agriculture education. In high school she was involved in FFA, track, volleyball, and the Education and Human Services and Science Clubs. She served for two years as a teacher assistant for the Middle School Agriculture Exploratory Class, was the Animal Lab manager providing care for many small animals during the school year and summer.
The Dodge County Master Gardener Association awards scholarships to high school seniors who plan a career in some area of horticulture.
