TRENDING:
Rondout Valley High School senior Hudson Paley was named a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The recognition was based on Paley’s performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Hudson was among approximately 34,000 commended students nationwide recognized for their academic excellence. These students placed among the top 50,000 scorers out of more than 1.3 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2024 PSAT/NMSQT.
Although commended students do not continue in the 2026 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, the recognition is a highly significant distinction.
At Rondout Valley High, Hudson is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in a wide range of extracurricular activities. They include the Math Team, Newcomers Uplifted Peer Leadership, and Unified Bowling. As a talented multi-sport athlete, he competes on the golf team as well as both the indoor and outdoor track teams.
Hudson also has a passion for music and showcases his talent as a saxophonist in the school’s jazz and concert bands. He was recently selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association All-State Band, which is composed of the top student musicians from New York state.
“We are so proud of Hudson for earning this distinction,” Rondout Valley High School Principal Jessica Torok said in a press release. “He represents the spirit of hard work, perseverance, and community that defines our students. This recognition is so well deserved.”
