The Oaklawn Foundation announced the recipients of its annual scholarships during a ceremony held on April 23 at Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
During the event, a total of $381,000 in financial support was granted to 125 Garland County residents to pursue their educational goals, a news release said.
In collaboration with the Hot Springs Area Community Foundation, the Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship program offers scholarships, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 each. The scholarships are available to Garland County residents who are enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, accredited community colleges, technical schools, or four-year public or private colleges or universities, including graduate or postgraduate studies.
Representing a diverse array of educational backgrounds, the scholarship recipients originate from schools including Cutter Morning Star, Fountain Lake, Hot Springs, Jessieville, Lake Hamilton, Lakeside, and Mountain Pine, as well as nontraditional students.
“The Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship program is more than just financial assistance; it’s about empowering individuals to pursue their dreams and aspirations,” Joyce Whitfield, executive director of the Hot Springs Area Community Foundation, said.
“Since its establishment in 2007, the Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship program has awarded 1,537 scholarships for a total of $4,728,000. We believe that education is the key to unlocking potential and creating positive change in our community.”
To be eligible for the Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship, applicants must be Garland County residents with a GED, high school equivalency, or high school diploma. Awarded annually in the spring, the scholarship application window opens in January of each year.
