With many high school seniors gearing up for graduation, Panola College is looking to support their extended education journey, giving out six scholarships to local students in the past month to attend the school.
Amanda Clements with the Panola College Arts Department gave away the $500 scholarships to local art students to go towards their potential attendance at the college after graduation.
The scholarships were given out at two separate events, the annual Mini Monet art competition hosted by the Marshall Regional Arts Council, and the Panola’s Picassos event.
Winners Malachi Baird, Alyssa Helton and Jonathan Janvier received a $500 scholarship to Panola College during the Mini Monet event this year. Baird was also recognized during the competition as a winner in the 2-D category for grades 9 through 12 for his piece “Preserving Memories.”
Additionally students at the annual Picasso’s event were recognized, receiving a number of scholarships. First place winner Christian Langifelter, third place winner Layla Plaisance and honorable mention winner Caleb Commiato all received $500 scholarships along with their awards.
Best in show during the event went to Carthage High School student Ivy Rodriguez, with second place going to Luis Alvarado of Carthage as well.
