The Brecksville Kiwanis Club awarded $17,500 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors this past April. Kiwanis scholarships are awarded to individuals who provide exemplary service to their community and are not necessarily based upon grades. At the Kiwanis’s annual scholarship reception on April 25, 11 graduating seniors were recognized for their outstanding service and commitment to the community.
The top scholarship awarded is the Elton Lube Scholarship named after a past president and former district governor of the Kiwanis. This $2,000 scholarship is awarded to the individual viewed as the most deserving candidate. Brecksville-Broadview Heights HIgh
School senior Kate Butler received this scholarship. Additionally, the James McCallister Scholarship, in memory of a beloved local Kiwanian, is awarded to the candidate who most exemplifies selfless service and giving to the community.  BBHHS senior Genevieve Dachtler was awarded this $1,500 scholarship.
Several other $1,500 scholarships were awarded to deserving students intending to pursue specific professions. The Kay Lube Scholarship, in memory of a former Kiwanian and past teacher at Highland Drive Elementary School, is awarded to a candidate who plans to go into the teaching profession.
