LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — As students completing higher education to advance their careers options face increasing costs, tuition assistance from employers can be a benefit employees look for.
Around 1,500 Wegmans employees from across the country were awarded scholarships as part of the company’s Employee Scholarship Program. To celebrate the occasion, all Wegmans stores will be serving mini cupcakes on Saturday, at 11 a.m.
Ten employees from the Dulles Wegmans store at 45131 Columbia Place in Sterling and 13 from the Leesburg store at 101 Crosstrail Blvd. in Leesburg, were among this year’s scholarship winners.
The grocery store chain originally founded in Rochester, New York, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Employee Scholarship Program. During those 40 years, the company has awarded $145 million in scholarships to more than 46,500 Wegmans employees.
Dulles store winners were: Alia B., Selina B., Ella G., Madeleine G., David J., Mauricio L., Max P., Henrry R., Braden S. and Justin S.
Leesburg store winners were: Jasmine B., Ryleigh B., Ava C., Isaias F., Lincy G., Taylor H., Aidan I., Ryan L., Anmol S., Natty S., Hannah W., Catherine Y. and Michelle Z.
Part-time Wegmans employees are eligible to receive up to $8,000 in scholarship money over four years. Full-time employees can receive up to $16,000 over for four years.
In order to be eligible to receive a scholarship, an employee needs to meet work-performance criteria and work a minimum number of hours over a specified time period.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, Wegmans expects to provide more than $6.5 million in tuition assistance to new and returning scholarship recipients.
