DOVER-FOXCROFT — Five students were presented with Horizon Scholarships by Tom Lizotte of the Board of Trustees at Foxcroft Academy on May 15. These scholarships, which provide financial support for exceptional academic experiences not presently offered at Foxcroft Academy, are open to all students in grades 8-11 who are (or will be) enrolled as full-time students at Foxcroft Academy. This inclusivity extends to faculty members, who are eligible to apply.
Horizon Scholarships are made possible by income from 15 named endowed Horizon Scholarship funds within Foxcroft Academy’s endowment. Approximately $11,000 is available to students and faculty members each year for these scholarships. This year, $6,370 was awarded to students who applied.
The five students awarded Horizon Scholarships for 2024 were:
● Adriana Guthrie for a summer dance intensive program at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (thanks in part to the Linda Gammon Fund)
● Tyler Wing to attend Boy Scout Camp at Camp Roosevelt in Eddington (thanks in part to the Gordon and Wilma Andrews Fund)
● Kameryn Coelho to attend YMCA Summer Camp Leaders School at Camp Jordan in Ellsworth (thanks in part to the Jim Brown Fund)
● Joanna Austie to attend the Maine Summer Youth Music Camp at UMaine (thanks in part to the Peter and Marion Plouff Fund)
● Emma Alden to go on a trip to Spain with the FA International Club (thanks in part to the Shirley Gammon Fund)
School officials look forward to hearing all about these upcoming summer experiences, which have been helped by Horizon Scholarship funding.
