COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The Warrior Outreach Ranch, in collaboration with partnering organizations, celebrated the achievements of eight exceptional students Friday by awarding them The Art Chriss Scholarship.
Warrior Outreach, known for its commitment to service members and their families, facilitates a transition to a new lifestyle. It’s approach includes both physical and emotional healing, as well as building confidence through horse therapy.
The scholarship is specifically designed for children with parents in the military who demonstrate intellectual excellence. Named after late owner and operator of Commando Military Supply Arthur R. Chriss, the scholarship embodies the core values of Warrior Outreach.
“Giving back and recognizing him since 2014 is inspiring not only to me, it’s in my heart for missing him and the family, but also to recognize that we’re not going to forget those who sacrificed everything in combat,” said Samuel Rhodes, CSM (Retired) US Army/president and CEO of Warrior Outreach. “We’re not going to forget those great Americans, like Art Chriss, who gave a lot to this community.”
“Education was huge for him,” Mellanie Chriss-Vinyard, daughter of Art Chriss, said. “He felt like you could do anything you put your mind to in your future if you had an education or trade.”
Chriss devoted numerous years to community service before his passing in 2013 at the age of 66. Continuing his father’s legacy, he made substantial contributions to the organization, and this scholarship stands as a testament to his enduring impact.
