Sixteen Los Angeles Unified School District 10th graders received $20,000 college scholarships from O'Melveny & Myers LLP at the Warren Christopher Scholarship Program awards on June 7 at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Celebrating its 30th year, the program honors LAUSD sophomores reflecting the spirit of Warren Christopher, the firm's late chairman and former U.S. Secretary of State. Chosen from 131 nominees, the recipients demonstrated academic promise, community service and financial need.
Firm partner Matthew T. Kline expressed pride in supporting these talented students, who each receive $5,000 annually for four years. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $7 million to more than 300 students. Graduates have attended prestigious universities like Harvard, Stanford, and MIT, pursuing careers in various fields, including education and public service. Some have become doctors or lawyers.
The 2024 recipients are Fairouz Abuamreih, Livier Andrade, Angel Arevalo, Mikea'Lynn Bailey, Liliana Beltran, Axel Berganza, Angel Blanco, Omar Godinez, Paola Henriquez, Nathaniel Johnson, Dereon Jones, Breanna Lamountain-Raya, Zolah McDonald, Oscar Moran, Thakur Singh, and Carla Tottress.
