KAHULUI–The Maui Okinawa Kenjin Kai announced Thursday they have awarded three $1,000 scholarships to local high school graduates. The recipients are Chelsey Konno, Hayden Hondo and Jacelyn Yun. Konno, Hondo, and Yun are recent graduates of Maui High School.
Chelsey Konno is the daughter of Darren and Mayumi Konno of Kahului. Chelsey will be attending Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where her studies will focus on Economics and International Studies.
Hayden Hondo is the son of Wade Hondo and Denise Karimoto-Hondo of Wailuku. Hayden will be attending California State University at Long Beach where he plans to major in computer science.
Jacelyn Yun is the daughter of Jasper and Joann Yun of Kahului. Jacelyn will be pursuing her degree in marketing at Oregon State University this coming fall.

The Maui Okinawa Kenjin Kai (MOKK), a non-profit organization that is committed to perpetuating the Okinawan heritage, culture, and arts.
The Maui Okinawa Cultural Center is located across from the old Sack N Save in Wailuku. Membership is open to everyone, those whose roots are in Okinawa as well as others who are Okinawan at heart.
The organization is affiliated with the Hawaii United Okinawan Association (HUOA), which serves as the statewide organization for almost 50 member clubs across the islands.
