OROFINO — When you can spend the day remembering two of the greatest people in your life (David and Suzy Kludt), hanging out with a huge number of folks who are pretty much family and then ending up with a hat full of donated dollars that are headed for scholarships for our local kids, well, it doesn’t get much better.
On the first Saturday in August each summer we meet at the Orofino Golf Course to launch golf balls in all directions, a few even go toward the hole. The obvious goal is to be on the winning team which allows those names to be emblazed on the Kludt Trophy for eternity. This year’s winners are Zack and Lawson Landmark, Danny Schoening and Jason Keen who scraped by with a mediocre 30!
Finke Logging donates prizes for longest putts on two holes and closest to the pin on two other holes. Bo Bonner grabbed one closest to the pin and Lawson Landmark got the other. As far as longest putts go, Sandy Clay won both.
Kamiah Hotel and Bar donated two dinner gift certificates (for some of the best food around) and Black Rifle Coffee dropped off a huge bag full of hats, stickers and other neat stuff.
All the golfers, and many others, throw money in a Red Felt Hat. This has always gone to scholarships here in Idaho. The Kludt donation this year will be targeted to students closer to home in the Kamiah and Orofino area.
Thank you all so much, and we will see you all again next year on the first Saturday in August.
