MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On Thursday, Alabama A&M University (AAMU) paid a visit to Freedom Preparatory High School for an energetic college outreach event in which over $500,000 in scholarships were offered to 14 lucky students.
The event, organized by the HBCU Awareness Foundation, was the result of an effort to connect high school seniors with opportunities at AAMU, a prestigious four-year public historically black college and university (HBCU).
Attendees were greeted by AAMU cheerleaders, who kicked off the event with a high-energy performance accompanied by the AAMU drumline.
The AAMU Band took center stage with a performance, bringing a burst of energy and enthusiasm as they marched in from outside. The Student Government Association (SGA) and current AAMU students also addressed the crowd, sharing their college experiences and encouraging Freedom Prep seniors to consider the opportunities at AAMU.
Scholarships were also awarded to 14 outstanding Freedom Preparatory Academy students, totaling a whopping $538,400 in scholarship funds.
