MT. PLEASANT — Congratulations to area high school students who were recently named as recipients of the 2024 Access Energy Cooperative scholarship program!
The following students each will receive a $1,500 award: Caden Allison of Libertyville; Chloe Frescoln of Batavia; Addison McGhearty of Mt. Pleasant; Drake Landau of Mt. Pleasant; Grace Van De Berg of Danville; and Taryn Havener of Burlington.
Caden Allison, son of Joshua and Carisa Allison, had many academic honors while in high school including National Honor Society and Academic all-conference in baseball, football and track and field. Caden plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College focusing on Construction Management.
Chloe Frescoln, daughter of Richard and Kathy Frescoln, worked as a CNA at Vista Woods Care Center as well as at Hy-Vee while in high school. Chloe plans to attend Northeast Iowa Community College to pursue a career in Nursing.
Addison McGhearty, daughter of Tom and Angie McGhearty, kept busy during high school participating in many activities including trapshooting, bowling, volleyball, National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. Addison will be attending Wartburg College to attain a degree in Business.
Drake Landau, son of Brent and Chelsea Landau, helped local farmers during his time in high school, as well as playing in bands throughout southeast Iowa. Drake plans to attend Kirkwood College to study CNC Machining Technology.
Grace Van De Berg, daughter of Travis and Christine Van De Berg, was involved in church and community groups, as well as helping her parents at Northeast Animal Hospital. Grace will begin her degree in Elementary Education at Southeastern Community College and will continue her education at Mount Mercy.
Taryn Havener, daughter of Todd and Danielle Havener, played volleyball, basketball, softball and participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Taryn plans to attend the Southeastern Community College.
Access Energy Cooperative awards six $1500 scholarships each year, two in each of its three districts. The parents or guardians of the applicant must be members of Access Energy Cooperative. Winners are chosen based on their academics, achievements, community involvement, and a submitted application with a few electric industry-related questions.
Access Energy Cooperative is a rural distribution electric cooperative, providing power to over 9,000 homes, farms, businesses, and industries in 10 southeast Iowa counties.
