(Chillicothe) – The Adena Health Foundation is continuing its tradition of support for the health care workforce of tomorrow, awarding scholarships to 29 graduating seniors who are considering careers in health care-related fields.
Adena celebrated the recipients recently during a Hope For Our Future scholarship banquet on the Adena Regional Medical Center campus. The 29 students from 15 schools across the health system’s nine-county coverage area were selected from among more than 200 applicants.
“The quality of the applicants was amazing this year,” says Laura Jo Hawk, president of the Adena Health Foundation. “These students volunteer in church, they volunteer in the community, they have jobs, and they’re involved in sports and other extracurricular activities while maintaining their academic success.”

The scholarship opportunities are made possible through the fundraising efforts of the Adena Health Foundation and Adena Volunteer Advisory Council; donations from physicians, advanced practice providers, and caregivers of Adena; and contributions from members of the community into one of several available scholarship funds making up the Hope For Our Future initiative.
“The scholarship initiative is designed to help foster the development of the talented young men and women who live throughout our area with the hope some of these students will, one day, choose to return and further their careers at Adena,” says Heather Sprague, chief human resources officer. “It’s our desire to try to keep that talent close to home as we fulfill our mission to care for the communities where we live, work, and play.”
By encouraging the students’ ambitions, Adena is helping them take advantage of growing opportunities in health care. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the health care industry will have an average of 1.9 million job openings nationwide available annually over the next several years.
