High school seniors from Pine Bluff and Watson Chapel were honored May 4 by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Scholarship Program, Delta Omega Omega Chapter.
The event was led by AKA President Yaminah Roberts and members of the AKA scholarship program, alongside Chandra Griffin, president of First Sister’s Outreach Inc. and members of First Sisters.
The event recognized the outstanding achievements of young women from Jefferson County, according to news release.
In collaboration with First Sister’s, the program awarded $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who demonstrated dedication to their education.
Scholarship recipients were:
From Pine Bluff High School — Briona Barbee, Makhiah Curry, Madison Jones, CharMyra Parks, Chasity Reed, A’Kazonna Riddle, Claire Shepherd, and Tamara Tate.
From Watson Chapel High School — Taylor Bagby and LaCandyce Lee.
All recipients are planning to further their educations at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The scholarships not only mark a recognition of academic achievement, but also signify a commitment to supporting these young scholars in their pursuit of higher education.
The recipients were commended for their hard work and dedication, and the scholarships aim to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with their educational endeavors.
“As the recipients embark on their higher education journey, the entire organization extends its sincerest congratulations, wishing them success and fulfillment in their academic pursuits and beyond, in addition to offering a small reception and photo opportunities,” according to the release.
