Three students from the University of Alabama have been elected to receive the Barry Goldwater Scholarship.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship Foundation was founded to highlight the accomplishments of college students pursuing a degree in natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
The scholarship was named after former Senator Barry Goldwater who served as a soldier, statesman, and in the U.S. Senate.
Since its founding in 1986, the foundation has gone on to award thousands of deserving undergraduate students and recognize them for their work in their respective fields.
The students selected were Jackson Maxwell, Lena Seyfarth, and Michael Zengel.
Maxwell is an Honors College student planning to pursue a doctorate degree in physical chemistry and conduct research while teaching at the university level.
Seyfarth is a Randall Research Scholar studying biology planning on getting a doctorate degree and becoming a lead investigator at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Zengel is also a Randall Research Scholar pursuing a doctorate degree in physics. He plans on becoming a university professor while also teaching and conducting research.
The University of Alabama will continue to acknowedge the academic accomplishments of its high achieving students.
