Alaska Communications is calling on residents statewide to nominate inspiring young individuals who are enhancing the lives of those around them through acts of kindness, bravery, and innovation. The Summer of Heroes program is a partnership between the telecommunication company and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska. The program is not limited to nominees affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs, ensuring widespread accessibility for all deserving youth.
Selected “heroes” will be granted $2,000 scholarships through Alaska 529, a college savings plan. The program has now been running for 14 years. Susan Anderson, Interim CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska, highlighted the long-term benefits of such initiatives.
“Investing in our youth is investing in Alaska’s future. These young heroes are the leaders of tomorrow, and we’re honored to be part of their journey,” Anderson stated in a press release.
To support youth development programs, Alaska Communications has also pledged to donate $25 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska for each new residential or business internet connection made between May 1 and June 14, up to a total of $15,000.
Matt McConnell, President and CEO of Alaska Communications, emphasized the importance of recognizing the selfless acts of these young heroes.
“The resilience and generosity of Alaska’s youth is inspiring,” McConnell said. “These young individuals are the heart of our communities, and it’s our privilege to shine a light on their inspiring deeds.”
Residents are encouraged to nominate a young hero in their lives by visiting www.alaskacommunications.com/summerofheroes to access the nomination form. The deadline for submissions is June 14, 2024.
