TUSCALOOSA, — The University of Alabama National Alumni Association celebrated the endowment of the John and Sonia Gullahorn Endowed Scholarship.
This scholarship was established by the Marshall County Chapter of the NAA to support future UA students.
Sonia Williams Gullahorn was born in Anniston, Alabama, but grew up in Birmingham, and graduated from Berry High School. She graduated from The University of Alabama in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, which helped her gain her first employment with Dun and Bradstreet. She later became a real estate agent. She has been very active in the Marshall County Chapter of the National Alumni Association and continues to be on the scholarship committee each year. She met her husband, John, during their senior year at The University of Alabama, and they married in August of 1984.
John Collier Gullahorn grew up in Albertville, Alabama, attending high school there before obtaining his accounting degree at The University of Alabama in 1983 and his law degree from The University of Alabama in 1986. He returned to Albertville and has been practicing law with his partner Charles R. Hare, Jr., for the past 39 years. He was recognized in his community as Citizen of the Year in 2017 and was selected to the Albertville High School Hall of Fame in 2023. He has served as local chapter President for the Marshall County Alabama Alumni Association, was elected as Vice President to the Executive Committee of the National Alumni Association in 2013 and most recently served as the President of the National Alumni Association in 2022–23.
The Gullahorns have been married for over 40 years and have two children.
They have been lifelong fans, supporters and representatives for The University of Alabama. This scholarship will forever represent them being faithful, loyal, firm and true to the school they love.
The NAA celebrated the official endowment of 30 new alumni scholarships at the annual Scholarship Endowment Dinner in September. NAA membership directly benefits scholarships for future students, providing crucial opportunities for the next generation of the Bama family. Last year, the NAA provided around 3,000 students with more than $5 million in scholarships.
The National Alumni Association is a self-governed, nonprofit membership-based organization that serves The University of Alabama and its many alumni, students, families, friends and fans.
