Each year Alco Federal Credit Union invests in the future of the communities it serves by awarding scholarships to local high school seniors to help finance their college education. A $1000 scholarship was awarded this year to Kori Thomas from Bolivar Richburg Central School and Emilya Mejia from Genesee Valley Central School.
Kori plans on attending Clarkson University where she will be working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Air Force ROTC. Kori has been a leader in her class throughout high school. She was captain of both indoor and outdoor track as well as varsity volleyball. She maintained high honor roll throughout high school while working as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Moore Memorial Pool. She won the Superintendents Award three times as well.
Emilya is going to be attending St John Fisher University and majoring in Nursing. She would like to work in an ICU after graduating. She has been captain of varsity cheerleading and has won the Scholars Athlete Award. She’s been involved with a number of clubs including prom committee and Spanish club. She has volunteered at the SPCA and has worked at Off Duty Inc and Pizza King.
Congratulations to Kori and Emilya for joining the long list of past winners of the John Patterson Memorial Scholarship. Mr. Patterson served for 32 years as Treasurer of Alco Federal Credit Union and was a vital piece in leading the Credit Union to where it is today.
This scholarship is available to any member of Alco Federal Credit Union that is graduating high school and has been a member for at least one year prior to applying. The application deadline is April 30th of your graduating year.
