From Alfred University,
ALFRED, NY — Alfred University welcomed its top scholarship recipients and their families to campus for a special President’s Day event on Monday, Feb. 17. Eighty-four students spent the day immersed in the Alfred experience, participating in campus tours, engaging in panel discussions, and attending mock classes led by Alfred University faculty.
Students attending the event have applied to Alfred University and been offered scholarships to enroll as members of the incoming class of fall 2025. Each of the university’s academic units—the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Inamori School of Engineering, and School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division—are represented in the applications.
As a token of recognition and appreciation, each student received a unique hand-sculpted glass flower from the installation “Full Circle,” a beautiful work of hot sculpted glass created by artist and Alfred University graduate Amis Meredith Crawford ’10 (BFA). Commissioned specifically for the President’s Day event, the one-of-a-kind pieces were crafted in the School of Art & Design Glass Studio and symbolize the continuity of inspiration, creativity, and success that defines the Alfred experience.
“I created this installation in mindful thanks for all the experiences that brought me from then to now,” Crawford said in reflecting on the creation of their art and its place in the President’s Day celebration. “I thought about the multitude of small intentional efforts and the persistence of working through an objective piece by piece. I imagined each recipient of these flowers starting on their own journey with Alfred and delighted in the joy of knowing how much purpose and success they will experience as a result.”
This year’s President’s Day celebration reflected Alfred University’s commitment to the cultivation of students’ collective future. As the scholarship recipients prepare to embark on their academic journeys, they do so with the support of an institution that values curiosity, resilience, and the boundless potential of each student.
