Put on your best white duds and get ready to party in the name of helping kids.
On Saturday, the West Georgia Pharoah Education Foundation (WGPEF) will host its ninth annual scholarship gala in Newnan. The foundation will award scholarships to three students at the gala, including one student from Troup.
The annual āAll Whiteā gala is held to award students from the three counties served by the foundation, which is an offshoot of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Theta Nu Lambda Chapter.Ā
The menās service fraternity serves Troup, Meriwether and Coweta counties.
This weekend, three lucky students will be awarded scholarships from the fundraising efforts of the fraternity. Two students will receive $2,500 scholarships and the top overall academic student among the three selected (based on GPA) will receive a $3,000 scholarship. Each winner will also receive a laptop and a custom-made suit. The winners will be announced during the gala.Ā
WGPFF Board Member Dexter Williams said the students are selected based on their applications. The bigger scholarship goes to the student with the best grades.
Williams said the gala is their biggest fundraiser of the year and proceeds go to help fund the scholarships they award. The foundation also helps students in other ways, such as providing much-needed school supplies, including personal protective equipment during the pandemic.Ā
This is the fraternityās fourth year hosting the āAll Whiteā gala, where attendees wear all white clothing. The fun tradition allows the organization to gather and raise money for kids.
During the gala, the organization will also name its Citizen of the Year award winner.
This yearās gala is sponsored by Southwire, a wiring and cable manufacturer with locations across the country, including Carrollton, Georgia.
Tickets and sponsorships are still available. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online atĀ  www.wgpef.weebly.com.Ā Ā
The annual All White Gala will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Newnan Centre, located at 1515 Lower Fayetteville Rd. in Newnan, Georgia.
