Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s Kappa Theta Zeta Chapter recently awarded two $1,000 EmpowerED Scholarships to two seniors from Lee County High School: Alana Alston and Susann Ortega.
Alston was recognized for her academic merit and outstanding interview presence.
A well-rounded student, Alston is active in sports, committed to community service and carries herself with a natural confidence that impressed the selection committee.
“She didn’t need to be coached—her passion, character, and drive came through effortlessly,” shared one committee member. “Alana’s resilience and readiness to lead signal a bright future ahead.”
Ortega was selected based on her financial need, individuality and heartfelt personal narrative.
A passionate advocate for education, she plans to pursue a career in the field and has already logged over 100 hours of community service. Her dedication to giving back, despite personal challenges, inspired the committee deeply.
“She embodies the spirit of advocacy and leadership,” the committee noted.
Rooted in the sorority’s founding principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood, Kappa Theta Zeta continues its commitment to giving back to the local community through initiatives like the EmpowerED Scholarship. This year’s recipients reflect the heart of that mission.
